Many of the farms belonging to the InterlakenMonastery were in Matten andso the monastery decided to build fountains. The first, probably made of wood, stood in Brunngasse. At the beginningof the 20th century tourism was in itsheyday and brought wealth to the region. In 1909 the municipality was thusable to erect 8 new stone fountains decoratedwith art-nouveau patterns. Notethe date of 1909 on the long side of thefountain.
«Did you know? In earlier times, use of the fountains led to strenuousarguments between themunicipalities of Matten andWilderwil.»
