Fountain «HOFSTATT»

The Hofstatt was once the property ofthe richest farmer in Matten. A farmhousebelonging to the existing barnnow stands in the Ballenberg Open-AirMuseum. The owner Hans Sterchi waspolitically active in the municipality inthe 19th century. His endeavours to havea school built was rejected by the localcouncil. Nevertheless, with the help oflocal people and using his own financialresources, he built the first school inMatten on his land. The former schoolbuilding stands next to the fountain andis appropriately called the Brunnenhaus(Fountain House).
